Phil McEwan

Phil retired from Merseyside Police in August 2016. At the time of his retirement he was a temporary detective superintendent seconded to Her Majesty Inspectorate of Constabulary & Fire and Rescue Service (HMICFRS) as a Force Liaison Lead inspection officer, leading teams inspecting police forces in relation to the HMICFRS police efficient, effective and legitimacy inspections. After retiring he successfully applied to become an associate inspector and was retained as a force liaison lead and continued to lead inspections into police forces. During this time, he also worked for HMI Probation and undertook inspections of the National Probation Service, Community Rehabilitation Companies and Youth Offending team. His career as a police officer was predominantly as a detective and he has experience in a variety of roles from homicide investigations as an SIO, district operational DCI managing risk areas of domestic abuse and child protection and working within Special Branch investigating counter terrorism.
