Melissa Alexander, TCAT Development Lead

Education has always been a passion of mine. Throughout my youth, I volunteered in primary schools teaching dance, and in 2012, I worked as a Camp Counsellor at Tradewinds Lake Camp, a non-profit camp for underprivileged children. This experience really inspired me, and the exposure to social injustice sparked my desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children.

I graduated with a history degree in 2013 and completed my Schools’ Direct in Secondary History teaching in 2016. I have been extremely privileged to work in several schools, surrounded by incredibly talented and dedicated teachers. Whilst working as an educator, I have led a department, as well as been a Professional Mentor and a Subject Mentor.

I joined The Challenge Academy Trust in September 2022, as the TCAT Development Lead. This diverse role enables me to fulfill a variety of jobs, such as coaching, networking and the overseeing of on-site events at TCAT Professional Development Centre. I feel privileged to be working alongside such passionate professionals, who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children. I am proud to have joined TCAT and I aim to contribute to the amazing work that goes on within our Trust.

In my spare time I enjoy Badminton and Pilates, as well as walking with my English Bulldog, Percy. I also enjoy travelling and experiencing new cultures. History is a key passion of mine, particularly military history, and I thoroughly enjoy visiting museums and historical sites, my favorite being Eden Camp. I am also a huge foodie and love trying new restaurants!
